An excellent aromatic food wine, famous during the Venetian Occupation (between the 14th and 16th century AD). It is impressive in its freshness and unique bouquet of aromas. It is exclusively produced from Malvasia di Candia aromatica, an excellent white grape variety which has achieved more prominence s in Cretan vineyards in recent years. Light golden color, followed by an attractive aroma. The enchanting aroma is reminiscent of lemon blossom, jasmine and some exotic fruits like passion fruit or mango. Dry flavour with refreshing acidity. Pleasant and long lasting aftertaste.

Douloufakis Malvasia: the wine

Douloufakis Malvasia Femina is an excellent aromatic food wine, famous during the Venetian Occupation (between the 14th and 16th century AD). It is impressive in its freshness and unique bouquet of aromas. It is exclusively produced from Malvasia di Candia aromatica, an excellent white grape variety. A variety which has achieved more prominence s in Cretan vineyards in recent years. Light golden color, followed by an attractive aroma. The enchanting aroma is reminiscent of lemon blossom, jasmine and some exotic fruits like passion fruit or mango. Dry flavour with refreshing acidity. Pleasant and long lasting aftertaste. To sum up with vinification, it’s lassic white vinification that takes place in stainless steel tanks, at the controlled temperature of 18°C.

Douloufakis winery

Douloufakis family has a long tradition in viticulture and wine making, which starts in 1930.  When grandfather Dimitris Douloufakis starts, for the first time, occupying professionally with the production of wines in old traditional premises. After that, in 1952, Douloufakis family participated in the 17th International Trade Fair of Thessaloniki. They received awards for the quality of their products. Nowadays, Nikolaos Douloufakis, grandson of Dimitrios continues the family tradition, after having graduated, as an oenologist, from the University of Alba, in Piemonte, in Italy.
After finishing his studies, he worked for wineries in Italy and then came back to Crete. There, he proceeded to the reconstruction of the vineyard, the cultivation of new varieties, the mechanical cultivation of the land . In addition, he implemented  ecosystem friendly cultivation methods.

The vineyards

The vineyards are located at an altitude of 300 meters and cover an area of 82 acres within the wine growing zone of Daphnes. The cultivated varieties are Vilana, Vidiano, Moschato of Spina, Malvasia, Mantilari, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Liatiko, Kotsifali, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Syrah.  In addition, local farmers also supply the winery with high quality grapes in a long term contract.
